eBay a Social Media Giant? The Biggest by Far!
Site - PG Job Pro-job board software.
Without a doubt, eBay was the first large online social media.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve used eBay as a price resource. Where’s the social media in that? Well, I have corresponded with people from every part of the world through eBay. What would you call that? I call it social media!
It’s not always what something is worth but then again, it is isn’t it? It’s always worth what someone is willing to pay & usually not much more. eBay is still clearly the online leader when it comes to selling goods online. The super mall of resellers if you will. In truth, the biggest sellers on eBay are also the biggest buyers on eBay … a good deal is always a good deal!
eBay became part of the new social media long before it was fashionable. Now we have Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon just to name a few. eBay has been active since the 90’s connecting people all over the world. That by definition is a social media.
eBay has great staying power, no one has knocked them off, many have tried. Long after Facebook & Twitter are replaced the next latest greatest social media … eBay will still be there. Remember Amazon was supposed to die .. never did! eBay never will either.
I use eBay as much as I use Google. In different ways mind you, but still as a trusted information resource. A little while ago someone told me eBay was done. I said really! Hmmmm I wonder why they thought that, I see no hint of it. eBay is still rockin if you ask me.
As an example, search eBay for “fishing lures” and then look under the “Completed Items” and then look for the highest prices paid. There’s a real eye opener. Fishing lures are still be collected and collectors are paying tens of thousands of dollars for just one single lure. And that’s just one example.
Do another search under “hermes birkin” pursues … just staggering prices being asked and being paid.
These are just two examples. With the economy being what it is right now I would expect to see a great many people making their way to eBay just like they have to Value Village these last few years. Everyone loves getting a great deal.
Spend even 20 minutes a night for a few days .. it’s amazing what gems you’ll find.
Oh & by the way .. Google is the largest Search Engine right? Yep, now who is second? Ready …
It’s YouTube! I kid you not! And they have just announced they will be offering Pay Per Click advertising like Google. Now this is very interesting, as the second most used search engine moves into Google’s space. In their face financially. And to top it off .. YouTube is all about video. Video being the fastest growing segment of internet marketing. Everyone has their day and Google’s best day’s may now be behind the. Oh but wait, who owns YouTube … yep, you guessed it GOOGLE!
Ok ok .. back to that monster social media eBay .. now wait a minute, I guess that makes YouTube a social media monster as well, with the viewer be able to add personal comments to each video. Watch out .. 2009 may be YouTube’s year!!
Alright now back to eBay .. lol .. gotta search out some of those deals.
